A Motivational Morning with Green Mountain Coffee® Fair Trade Certified Coffee

At my university I am a part of a group called the “Morning Motivators.” Our group contains about 26 people and our purpose is to provide students with a great start to their day. Once a week we set up a few tables in a common area and offer coffee, breakfast food, a motivational quote of the day, and school supplies. One week we may give away folders, another notebooks, another pens, and so on. Local organizations, students, and groups from the university provide donations in order for us to afford our supplies. Approximately 100 students pass through each week. All of the “Morning Motivators” have their own special interest, and each week one of us is selected to share our interest during the once a week morning giveaway.

This Thursday, I thought it would be a great opportunity to share Green Mountain Coffee®’s Fair Trade Certified message with others. I am also conveniently always in charge of the coffee section, and we use a Keurig so everyone gets their own personalized cup. It was a perfect opportunity.

Earlier this week, I purchased eight 24 count packs: Pumpkin Spice, Colombian Fair Trade Select, Nantucket Blend, Our Blend, Three Continent Blend, Vermont Country Blend, Organic Sumatran Reserve Extra Bold, and Wild Mountain Blueberry. Of course I used a coupon, but saved the rest to share with others.

Although the Keurig is a fast brewer, it gave me about a minute to explain that week’s message. I began by explaining that as a BzzAgent, I have the opportunity to try new or popular products for free, with the inclusion of coupons, and then to review and share the products with others. My newest campaign is for GreenMountain Coffee® Fair Trade Certified coffee.

I explained that purchasing Green Mountain Coffee®Fair Trade Certified coffee helps to ensure that farmers in third world countries receive adequate compensation for their work in a country where they would otherwise be exploited for low wage labor. This gives farmers an opportunity to invest in their crops, communities, and the future. That means that every time you purchase a product from Green Mountain Coffee® Fair TradeCertified, you are helping those less fortunate in other countries to build roads, develop schools, and farmers to have a better life. Finally, I noted that Green Mountain Coffee® has been named the world’s largest purchaser of Fair Trade Certified coffee, which means that Green Mountain Coffee®, Fair Trade, and coffee farmers work together to bring the best quality coffee to the market.

I also passed out a small flyer with that explained my role as a BzzAgent, a brief explanation of Fair Trade certification, and how Green Mountain Coffee® works with Fair Trade. I made sure to include links to the BzzAgent website, Keurig website, and Green Mountain Coffee®’s website.

I also asked that they please help me spread the good vibes with GreenMountain Coffee® and Fair Trade for Fair Trade Month.  I suggested that they check out Green Mountain Coffee®’s ChoseFairTrade.com. And, to not forget to enter to win two tickets to see Kelly Clarkson perform a New York City concert for Fair Trade Month on the Green Mountain Coffee® Facebook page.

While students pass through and grab their goodies, the each write their name and email on a small piece of paper. At the end of our morning session, we draw a name and that person gets a goody bag delivered to them. For that day, we included a k-cup of each flavor of Green Mountain Coffee® Fair Trade Certified coffee we had used that morning and a coupon. Everyone loved it. Pumpkin Spice was the hit of the day.
